Tube Guards

Make Engineered Products Company (EPCO) your resource for Standard and UV protection fluorescent tube guards! EPCO tube guards completely surrounds the lamp and provides superior protection against broken glass and sparks that can result when fluorescent lamps shatter.
Two types are available:

  • Standard Tube Guard is a light stabilized polycarbonate and has 0% transmittance below 365 nanometers. Available in Clear, Amber, Red, Green and Blue colors only. Typical applications include:
    • Outdoors
    • Refrigeration
    • Special lighting requirements
    • Food service
    • High traffic areas
    • Warehouses
  • UV-stabilized Tube Guard retards the UV output of fluorescent tubes and block unwanted UV up to the 480nm range to meet FDA and USDA requirements. For applications that require reducing the amount of UV from the lamp, this is the most viable solution. Available in clear only. Typical applications include:
    • Museum and Galleries
    • Libraries
    • Photography studios
    • Movie theaters
    • Food service
    • Special effects lighting applications where UV protection is required

EPCO Tube Guards are properly installed by using the end caps supplied in every carton. The end caps are pre-drilled to allow the pins from the lamp make the electrical connection. The end caps also create an air space between lamp and the inside of the tube guard. We recommend using the end caps that are included with the tube guards to keep the lamp from coming in direct contact with the tube guard. Improperly installed tube guards that come in direct contact with the bulb may cause possible distortion and/or discoloration.

Over time, the lamp will begin to show signs of age. The ends of the lamp may heat up and cause the tube guard to possibly distort and discolor. EPCO recommends adding a Heat Sink Screen (P/N 17800) to each end of the lamp during the tube guard installation to dissipate heat and provide longer lamp life.

  2. Standard Tube Guards are not intended for use with 1500 mA (VHO) lamps
